In Novara hills wine production has ancient origins dating back even pre-Roman times.

Since 1969 the wine Boca, Fara, Ghemme and Sizzano have obtained D.O.C., a tangible sign of the great quality of the wine products of the area and are characterized and defined by the presence of vines typical of Novarese and a precise production area.

The main grape of Novara hills is Nebbiolo, which enters so predominant in all D.O.C. and deeply characterizes the territory.

In 1994, D.O.C. Colline Novaresi was established in seven different categories:
Novara Hills, Novara hills White, Novara hills Nebbiolo Novara hills Uva Rara, Novara hills Vespolina, Novara hills Croatina, Barbera Novara hills.
The production area, forms a quadrilateral and is represented by the hilly area that includes twenty five municipalities: Bareilly, Boca, Bogogno, Borgomanero, Briona, Cavaglietto, Fontaneto d’Agogna, Cavallirio, Cressa, Cureggio, Fara Novarese, Fontaneto d ‘ Agogna, Gattico, Ghemme, Grignasco, Maggiora, Marano Ticino, Mezzomerico, Oleggio, Prato Sesia, Romagnano Sesia, Sizzano, Suno, Vaprio d’Agogna, Veruno.
The vines that give the name to the vineyard, will be those typical, with prevalence, 85% of the grape that gives its name to the individual types.

In 1997, the Ghemme Doc has been recognized as DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin).
